The Crazy Hair Tour-Secret Keeper Girl!

The girls and I got a chance to attend The Secret Keeper Girl Crazy Hair tour earlier this month!  Secret Keeper Girl is a Christian program designed for tweens ages 8-12 years old.  The girls had fun, and it was very silly!  I got up to dance on stage with them at one point!  Ella shed some tears when the speaker was talking.  She is my emotional/feeler daughter.  When I asked why she was so emotional, she said that she wanted Jesus to change her heart because it was full of sin.  That melted my momma heart as I gave her a big hug.

Can you find me and my girls?

lots of screaming was involved!

good thing I’m an expert

I knew being a former kindergarten teacher would come in handy in parenting!

At my parent’s house this last weekend, we were playing our traditional family poker game after the kids went to bed. After the game, at nearly 10 o’clock, my brother was going upstairs and he noticed a note that was pushed underneath the girls’ door. He thought maybe it was a piece of trash from earlier, but as he looked again, a second note was pushed underneath the door!  So, he picked up the notes.

From April 2009

And my brother, having no prior experience in ‘reading’ 4 year old writing(it is a mastered skill after all), handed them to me to decode.  I have to say when I saw the notes that I was pretty proud of Rilyn trying so hard to write 1. in the dark, 2. so late at night, and 3. because she really wanted us to know something and she knew she wasn’t supposed to get out of bed unless bleeding or potty.  (Note to self:  Don’t reprimand her for wanting to do her creative writing assignments for school late at night.  She’s obviously a Knight Rider, night writer.)  😉

So, I guess we were being too loud while gambling having quality family time.

I would read 23 kindergarteners’ journals upside down and right to left every day so yah, I’m pretty good at this.

Sesame Street Live

We took the girls last night to Sesame Street Live for their Valentines treat.  They loved it, especially Ella.  I loved watching their faces light up at the music and characters.  Here are some pics.

I promise she wanted to go to the show, but was not excited about taking pictures beforehand!

two tutus

Now that Ella is officially potty trained, and 3 years old, she gets to be a ‘ballerina’.  Rilyn was going to do soccer in the spring, but since Ella chose to do ballet, Rilyn wanted too also.  Rilyn did ballet last year so she’s an old pro.  😉   Now I have 2 girls in ballet!  Recital costumes here I come!!  I don’t mind though, because I actually found a time slot at Dance Elements where both girls can be in a tap/ballet class at the same time.  Here are some pics of Ella’s first day of ballet.

it makes me wonder

It makes me wonder where my daughter comes up with these things but, alas, here is one of her recent creations.  A robot that guards mommy’s door so I can sleep.  She told me what words to spell for her and obviously she wrote them herself and then taped the robot to my bedroom door all by herself.  Now I finally feel like I can sleep in peace. Thanks Rilyn.

scary Santa

My girls and Santa don’t really get along.  I guess maybe because we don’t emphasize him at Christmas time.  The other day, Rilyn’s hairdresser asked what Santa was going to get her for Christmas and Rilyn asked her, “Who’s Santa?”  The hairdresser looked at me a little shocked.  I was too.  But, I think she would of recognized his name if she would of said, “Santa Claus.”  (She is really into ‘last names’ right now.  She told me that Jesus’ last name is “God” the other day.)

Hey, nothing is wrong with the fake man, I always take my kids’ picture with him each year so I do give him a little props.   I just rather talk about baby Jesus.  So, now we are in countdown for Santa pictures…3 days left.  Will Asher continue the ‘Paquette pout’ with the big guy?  I’ll be sure to post!

the bouffant and the bug

(yes I had to look up how to spell bouffant)

Here is a little sneak peek at what the two Paquette girls will be wearing this Halloween.  Asher will be wearing the twice passed down pumpkin costume from his big sisters’ first Halloweens. (I promise this will be the only costume that will be passed down to him.)    😉

In honor of the Olympics…

In women’s gymnastics, Rilyn Paquette enters the arena. Hopes are high that she will bring back the gold for the USA.

Her beam routine is superb!

Her vault-excellent!

The floor exercise is flawless!

Now we bring you sliding (kinda like diving) and Ella Paquette is ready for the challenge! She’s been practicing this all her life.
She poses for a quick photo op

Her sliding skills are near perfect!

Minimal splash so we should expect high scores…

A quick shower and then she must complete her last slide.

Well, that wraps up todays coverage of the Olympics, now we’ll leave you with the medal ceremony.

**Gymnastics at Capital Gymnastics, the pool is at Scott Mentzer pool in Pflugerville.

The toothpaste sermon

We “impress” our children everyday with who we are, what we think, or what we do. These moments may come to our children through our words, but family moments contain more power and lasting effects when they come through instructive events our children can observe.

On Monday nights we have “Family Night” where we have family devotions and our girls are actively engaged in learning. Tonight James taught about making our speech pleasing to God using a tube of toothpaste. After hearing a lot of ‘poopoo words’ to each other lately, I thought the girls needed to be reminded of how powerful the tongue can be.

Here they are with their tubes. The girls were allowed to squeeze all of the toothpaste out of their tubes.

Then daddy told them to put the toothpaste back into the tubes.

“That’s right! The very same thing is true of the words we speak. Have you ever said something that hurt someone’s feelings and heard them say, “You take that back!” You can’t take it back, can you? Once you have said it, it is said. You can’t put the words back in your mouth any more than you can squeeze this toothpaste back into the tube. That is why we need to be very careful about the things we say. The Bible says, “He who holds his tongue is wise.” Proverbs 10:19

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14  Once we have said it, we can’t take it back, so let’s make sure that our words are pleasing to God.
