flashback Friday

I can’t help but post this again from Easter in March 2008:

Rilyn lately likes to make up her own songs. Today, Easter Sunday, she did not disappoint and decided to compose a ballad of the true meaning of Easter for us. Her video is priceless (her lyrics a bit random), but if you will watch till the end, Ella will manage to get attention too! (Watch her practice her launching skills too, you will see it didn’t help much!)

Lyrics:

Jesus died on the cross

For the dead of God

He is the rose of the dead

That’s right!

He rose up from dead

Now we go to church on Sundays and Thursdays

That’s why we are churches

We have church in heaven all way down

Jesus loves us because we are heaven

We are going to go in heaven

Someday we will go in heaven

We will want Him too

And someday we will see Jesus in our heart

Completely

May Jesus loves us and you mommy and

That’s-why-Jesus-loves-us-too!!!!!

Hmm. Hmm.

a hunting she will go!

Rilyn had her class Easter egg hunt today.  I volunteered to stuff and hide all 300 eggs.  I’m definitely not mom of the year though-I didn’t even go to Ella or Asher’s egg hunt.  (At least I sent them to preschool with the 12 stuffed eggs their teachers asked for!)  🙂

all worth the work for seeing these faces!
go get’em!

leave it to grandma!

Grandma came for a quick visit today and she never can come empty-handed!  Leave it to grandma to buy the most interesting shirt I’ve ever seen!  It’s very practical for Asher, because this boy tries to carry about 10 matchbox cars around the house at a time and drops them all over.  How cute is this shirt?  Thanks Grandma!!!

8 pockets for his cars so he can walk around with them!
Hmmm, I think I’ll take this one out!
It’s kind of like a bullet proof vest, but for his tummy!  😉

You can buy them here if you are interested.

the bunny blues

Just for fun, and for a good cause, we had breakfast with the Easter bunny this morning at a local church. Asher almost lost it, but he was able to get down before the actual tears came.
You can see he is not happy that I’m making him sit there.

Here comes the “I’m about to cry” look…

I had another photo shoot today!  The peacocks at Mayfield park were beautiful and we were lucky to see them strutting their feathers!  Come on over to my photography blog and check out my pictures!

career day!

Rilyn had career day at school today and my dad, Dr. Richard Erickson, came to speak about being a doctor (specifically a gastroenterologist) to 60 first graders.  What a sweet grandpa!  I remember when he spoke to my elementary school 20+ years ago!

Rilyn and her grandpa!
showing them their insides!

Grandpa had to let his granddaughter come up to the front to participate! Rilyn got to look in an endoscope. You can see everyone wanted a turn!

My dad is showing the kids on his laptop a view of an endoscopic camera that is

going down someones throat and into their stomach.

I love the girl in the front row’s expression!  Ewwwwww!

Thanks dad, Rilyn was so proud of her grandpa!

professional tooth yanker

I’m pretty sure that I’m a professional tooth yanker by now.  Tonight was my 7th tooth I’ve pulled out of my kid’s mouths.  I say “kid’s” because tonight Ella lost her first tooth!  Right on time too.  Rilyn lost her first tooth at 5.1 years.  Ella is 5.3 years old.

Ella is so different from Rilyn in a lot of ways though.  One of which is toughness.  (See Rilyn’s first tooth being pulled out here and how wimpy sensitive she was.)  Now Ella picks and chooses when she wants to be tough, but when she wants to be-boy, she is TOUGH!  Shots, getting sick (like vomiting), and now yanking a tooth for close to 5 minutes doesn’t faze her in the least.  She told me about it being loose just this afternoon and I didn’t believe her.  I finally got around to feeling it tonight and I was surprised!  I shouldn’t of been, because both her and Rilyn got their first teeth at 4 months so they should be losing them at the same ages, but it is hard to think of Ella as “growing up.”  She is still my little girl.  Her tooth probably would of come out on it’s own a few days later, but no, she wanted it out now so she could show everyone at preschool tomorrow her new smile.  So I yanked, and wiggled, and twisted, and that is why her smile is a little bloody.  🙂

And here is Ella with her first bottom two teeth!

june 2006

Oh, and in typical Ella fashion, about 15 minutes after I put her to bed tonight she came out of her room crying because she was playing with her tooth pocket, (that was supposed to stay under her pillow so mommy can give her a dollar tonight), and her tooth fell out of it and now is lost somewhere in her bed. She is devastated because James is out of town and she wanted to show him her first tooth. I told her we will look for it tomorrow. Do I think we will find it? Not a chance.
I guess it’s a good thing Rilyn has kept some of her baby teeth…Ella won’t know the difference! 😉

flashback friday!

In honor of Texas bluebonnet picture-taking season (I am taking pictures tomorrow!), and in keeping with the theme of jean on jean fashion (see post below), here is a picture of me with my brother and sister circa 1996.  (You are lucky I couldn’t find the picture with my mom and dad in jean on jean too!)  That year was my first experience with bluebonnet pictures because I had moved from southern California the summer before.  Speaking of…I can’t believe that I have lived in Texas as long as I have lived in California.  This year marks 16 years living in Texas and I moved to Texas from California when I was 16.  Wow.
