a different point of view

When I posted last about past pumpkin patches I was reminded of a certain incident that occurred at one of the visits.  It happened when we went to the Elgin pumpkin patch in 2007 when Rilyn was three and received a disposable camera.   It was definitely a ‘blog worthy’ moment then, but I didn’t have the ‘encouragement’ that I do now to post this.  (You know who you are! )

At the Elgin patch there are plenty of farm animals to pet and look at.  Rilyn, having received this camera, was eager to take pictures of many of the animals by herself.   When we got home, I sent the camera in to get developed so Rilyn could put together a little photo album of her trip to the pumpkin patch.  Well….a couple days later when I picked up the developed pictures, I was very glad that I went through them before I let Rilyn see her photography skills.  The first picture in the stack definitely caught my eye!  You must click here to see due to the graphic nature.  (Keep in mind, a three year old is only a certain height and so when she thinks she is taking a picture of a horse, well, it is a horse, but just not the face…get my drift?)

*If Rilyn ever becomes a famous photographer, she will kill me for this!  😉

pumpkin patches of past

My kids aren’t being funny, I have no deep thoughts(or good ideas), and I haven’t been taking any pictures lately, so I have nothing really to blog about. But, James is gone, and I’m bored, so I’m going to humor myself. So, here you go…pumpkin patches from the past! (I’m trying to get myself psyched up for the big pumpkin patch photo shoot on Monday. It’s not going to be fun, but I will succeed!!!!!!!!)

what’s gonna work? TEAMWORK!

Wonder Friends!
Wonder Friends!
We're on our way
To help a friend
And save the day
We're not too big
And we're not too tough
But when we work together
We've got the right stuff
Go, Wonder Friends, ya'ay!
*Theme song from Wonder Pets (in case you don't have a preschooler or don't let them watch cartoons)

Levi's got the pedal, Rilyn at the wheel
Switch!

*This was totally their idea at Fuddruckers today after church! I just happened to have a camera to capture the sweet moment!

thirty something

Happy Birthday James!  You are definitely 31 years young!
The girls and I made this Jell-o cheesecake for daddy since it is one of his favorite desserts! We celebrated with birthday cake a night early so that we could be with our community group from our church, the Austin Stone. (Our girls love a party!)  This picture is a very accurate reflection of you! Kids (11 are actually around him, although only 6 1/2 are actually shown), are drawn to you because of your child-like personality and playfulness! I love that about you!

peanuts are scary

As Asher was watching a Baby Faith video the other day, God Made Animals, he started crying.  I realized he was actually scared of an elephant and a peanut segment on the movie.  So naturally, the next day I told James about it and we videotaped him watching it.

if you’re ever in the UK

You know those free ‘fun things for your kids to do in your city’ magazines that you can pick up at libraries or dentist offices around town? Well, if you’re ever in the UK this fall, (or more specifically Sunderland), and you wander into a library, you might just see a picture of Ella in the Raring2go! magazine.

A couple of months ago, I got a comment from my blog about a picture of Ella getting her first haircut. They asked if they could use the picture in their ad in a magazine. I decided it would be okay and just asked that they mail me a copy of the magazine. Well, it came this week! And sure enough, on the back pages where all the ads are in those type of magazines, there is an ad for Satchi hairdressing. The ad claims “cutting edge hair design” and shows Ella’s picture underneath where she is at Cool Cuts in Toys R Us in Austin, TX. 😉  This place sounds like a pretty good hair salon if you ask me.  I mean, not only do they have Ella’s picture on their ad, but they boast ‘free parking’!  Who doesn’t love a free parking spot when your about to get your hair done?  🙂

Hurry in!  This special expires Nov. 30th!

fall decor and more

I love decorating for the seasons and holidays. Unfortunately, James likes ‘decorating’ too. His style, however, is not very pretty. Ugh. This is what I saw last night after he came home from work.
Thanks babe, I think the coins really ‘sparkle’ and your old receipts from your pocket add just the right touch.

Does anyone else have husbands that do this???

**We’ve tried bowls and set aside special ‘areas’ for his stuff, but no such luck. He is programmed to put it all where I don’t want it.

girly

Rilyn is ‘girly’.  There are many examples of this, but I will share just a few of the more recent ones.

Every day, she comes home with her writing assignment from kindergarten.  And everyday, there is a constant theme running through them…(especially in the pictures)

“I like my sister Ella.”
“I like to add the unicorn.”
“I am riding on a unicorn.”
This one got cut off on my scanner…”If I was going to a party I would bring m y jewelry and my glass slippers.”

And recently at school when I asked how her day was, she told me, “Romantic.” “Why?” I asked, ever so curious. “Because I square danced with a boy.” (It was a Mexican Independence Day celebration dance they were learning I found out later.)
When asked what she wants for Christmas, she replied, “Dangly earrings.”

When I told Rilyn yesterday that we would start soccer in the spring, she replied, “I decided I don’t want to because I will get all hot and sweaty.  Can I have art lessons?”  (I can only imagine how many more unicorns, castles, and princesses will be drawn…)

rising to new levels part 2

Wish there didn’t have to be a sequel to the last post, but unfortunately there is.  I got a little brave as a mom and thought I could walk in front of Asher going up the stairs…oops.

From September 2009

Lesson learned. Like his last head bonk, just one month ago, I watched the goose egg rise and the blood come to the surface.  My poor baby boy.  As you can see, he wasn’t that hurt by the looks of his smile and started crying when I wouldn’t let him back up the stairs.  Men!  I just don’t understand them sometimes!

rising to new levels

This past weekend, my sister styled Asher’s hair in a faux-hawk.  James loved it and now requests for me to do it each day!  I’m not positive, but I think this faux-hawk style is making my sweet little 17 month old boy into a little stinker!  (Or maybe it’s just “boys will be boys” like James tells me, and I’m just not used to their odd behaviors!)

Anyway, it’s not just Asher’s hair that is rising to new levels!  I caught him doing all of this today!

Standing on my end table in the living room!
He has reached and opened the door knob to our room.

Now he is trying to figure out the backyard door!

Once again, standing on a table!
Uncle Ben with Asher pondering how he can get in trouble next!

P.S. My girls never did this!
