cuz I love you

As Asher’s cousin Caden gets older, it is so fun to see them interact together!  We babysat Caden this week and I couldn’t resist taking a few sweet shots!

Uncle James with his boys!  (future Aggie quarterback and linebacker)  😉

Yes, James is wearing an N’Sync shirt, and yes, he wears it ALL the time, and yes, he wanted to be JT
I would recommend this car table to any parent with a boy 2+

asher’s first dentist visit

Oh Asher…God’s daily reminder to me that I need Him every hour of every day!  😉  If you haven’t caught on before, Asher is our most difficult child by FAR.  Today was his first dentist appointment, and I knew it would be rough because of a previous doctor visit this year.  He had a strep culture taken at that particular doctor visit, and they gagged him to get it. Ever since then, he puts up quite a “protest” to anybody trying to touch his mouth area (as the kind lady dentist described it).  Here he is about to start.  (They put sunglasses on the kids so the bright light over their head doesn’t bother their eyes.)  He is definitely nervous, sucking his fingers and has his blankie under his “bib”.

first dentist appt.!

Now here is where I wish I could just take pictures of the whole event because believe me, it was a “protest” and quite a sight! But no, I had to straddle my son and hold down his arms while the dentist, (not the hygienist, she couldn’t handle him!), had to put a “tooth pillow” a.k.a a mouth clamp in one side of Asher’s mouth so she could clean. But before she did that, he screamed, thrashed, kicked me in the gut several times, and bit the dentist’s fingers (hence the “tooth pillow!”) all the while spitting, choking on his spit, gagging, and blowing snot out.
It was very humbling. This is my son. Let me say a prayer for his salvation. (James tells me anytime I get frustrated with Asher, instead of giving in to anger, pray for his salvation.) He should be a Christian any day now! 😉
Here is Asher after being allowed to get out of the chair and running away from the dentist!

get away from me!!!!!

The dentist was so sweet, patient, and calm. I told her that her day could only get better from here on out (probably her week)! She even let Asher pick out a treat after his good behavior. He picked a bouncy ball, (and tried to get two!) 😛  Look how sweaty and wet his eyelashes look from all the crying!

After an hour of “the dental protest of 2011”, he was worn out (so was I!). There was one silver lining-he became a member of the “No Cavity Club”!

this is Asher, and he is worn out

I told Asher as we were waiting for his sisters, “Don’t worry, we won’t be back until after Christmas!” He was not too thrilled!

We have to come BACK?!?

fresh, cold lemonade for sale!

I’m pretty sure my 7 year old has a bucket list already (written up in her head).  One of those items on her list is to have a lemonade stand!  Her aunt Mandy graciously offered to have it on her front yard in Fort Worth, so off we went this weekend to visit James’ family and have a lemonade stand!

the upsale: offer them strawberries for only a $1 extra!

The girls with their beloved aunt (James’ little sister)!

Ready for business!

Ella kept trying to give customers lemonade without the ice!  Not good for a 100 degree + day!

These sisters (especially Rilyn), have no fear when it comes to strangers. (They do not get it from us!) They were dancing all along the street, shouting at cars, waving their arms around trying to get attention to their stand!

Come and get it!!!

A customer!

Rilyn’s smile says it all in this picture! Making the sale is a dream for her!

you like her bedazzled fingerless gloves?!?  😉

If you think the girls had red pig tails, you were right. Just another fun aunt thing to do!

It did get busy at one point! They did fairly well, (with much thanks to Papaw Bear who was on the phone calling his friends to come buy a fresh, cold, glass of lemonade!)  I believe they made $50 total in profit!

business is booming!

superhero party!

Whenever my friend Jen does birthday parties at home, she does them big!  Yesterday was Asher’s best friend, Caden’s, 3rd birthday party.  He had a joint party with another buddy in the neighborhood too.  It was a superhero party and very cute!

Jen’s cupcakes:

Pinata time! (Asher tapping the pinata, Rilyn is the one who finished the pinata off and let the candy fly!)

water park fun

We drove to my mom’s house yesterday to treat the kids to a morning at the local water park.  It was actually overcast, so the crowds were away, and it was a little cooler than our normal 100 degree temps as of late.

being silly

Can you see Rilyn and Ella underneath the play structure getting poured on? (Asher was scared of this and wouldn’t go near it!)

down pour!

Rilyn and I got to race down these slides together! It’s fun having a child who is tall enough now to do more rides!

last year Rilyn was too short to go down these

Here is grandma duck with her little grandducklings (Ella was probably floating away in the lazy river somewhere!)

The kids loved this splash pad because you could “breathe” under the water fountains! 😉

a rare picture of all three looking at the camera AND smiling!

I got my sunset pictures!

Our good friends from college, Kim and Ryan, came in town this past weekend.  We rented a pontoon boat with the Richardsons, and took a 4 hour cruise on Lake Travis.  James caught his first fish, (and his second, and his third!)  They were all just perches, but none the less, he can now say he has caught a fish!  And I finally got my sunset pictures (in Kauai, our sunsets were covered either by clouds or mountains.)

Jen, me, and Kim

With the expert help from Ryan, (he works for the Boy Scouts, so you know he is legit!), James caught and held up his first fish!

Then he tried to get me to touch it. NO WAY. I will draw the line at anything to do with fish and (flying) birds. GROSS.

keep that nasty thing away!
sun is starting to set

For some reason the guys thought it was hilarious to try and sink the boat by hitting wakes at just the right time and having a wall of water splash inside. You can tell by James’ shirt, they were very successful!

whoosh!

fashion misses-bangs cut by a non-professional

Hope you enjoyed my little “fashion misses” series.  Today is the last day, although, sadly, I probably could of done another week long worth of bad pictures!

My mom cut my bangs for awhile.  It’s very obvious when you see the following pictures.  😦

This is me in second grade, same age as Rilyn will be soon!

fashion misses-shoulder pads

Unfortunately I was a victim of shoulder pads.  The kind that made my shoulders look like they went on for miles…

I know ties can be in fashion at times, but when you are wearing a tie and your brother is wearing a tie in the same picture? Not working. And the shoulder pads just make it even worse.

This sweater I borrowed from my mom (I hope!), but the shoulder pads and the length?…a sad story.  Oh, and the bun holder that I was wearing in my hair…sigh.

Then there is this dress…technically not shoulder pads, but there is definitely a “growth” on the shoulders!

fashion misses-trucker style

No explanation needed.  I just can’t believe I ever stepped out in this outfit.

I promise I had an undershirt on under my jean vest.  James says

it looks like I have a mullet under my hat!

Check out my trucker style shades!  Yikes!

fashion misses-the home perm

You know this series of posts are humbling…I’m so thankful that God sees us for who we are in our heart rather than our appearances!  🙂

So, somewhere around elementary school age, I decided that my mom needed to perm my hair.  I remember sitting on a chair in the kitchen while my mom rolled my hair!
