a love letter

Oh how I love thee biter biscuits! Thank you for letting my family have a peaceful Thanksgiving meal today.  Thank you for providing teething relief for my boy (4 teeth and counting!).  Thank you for letting him enjoy delicious graham flavor.  I could do without your clean-up but I will sacrifice 30 wipes for 30 minutes of a somewhat, (don’t forget we still have 2 other kiddos!) peaceful meal.

roughin’ it-thanksgiving style

We went to South Shore park on Lake Bastrop for Thanksgiving with James’ parents.  What a beautiful hideaway-and only 30 minutes away from us!  The girls had so much fun with Oma’s canoes!  (Rilyn actually got to spend the night in the cabin with her Oma and Papaw last night.)  We had a Thanksgiving feast, only complete with the Cowboys game.  This, of course, was courtesy of James bringing the TV into the great outdoors where he carefully placed it at the head of table, (where only Tony Romo is fit to sit.)  Thankfully the Cowboys won-(we won’t mention our other team that played yesterday and royally stunk up their whole season.

Aunt Mandy made the girls Indian costumes the night before.

Who doesn’t love Charlie Brown holiday specials??  I thought we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving with our community group kiddos!  So, just like the cartoon, their plate looked like this:

our little man

Asher turned seven months yesterday.  He is such a good baby!  He just got his 3rd tooth so maybe my laundry will go down for awhile from all the bibs he soaks with drool.  He is about to crawl too.  The little guy gets up on all fours and rocks-he just can’t figure out how to propel forward yet without doing a face plant.  I would prefer he hold off until after the Christmas tree goes down but he has other ideas.  It looks like we won’t be decorating the bottom half of our tree this year.  Here he is showing off of his new skillz.

And here he is with one of his best buds-Malachi. I think this friendship may be one-sided right now but I’m very confident they will grow to one day be bros. 😉

busted

We’ve managed to go 4 1/2 years with kids without going to the ER.  I think that is a pretty good run…

Tonight it ended, but with good news.  No stitches for poor Ella on her busted lip that she did at a friend’s house.  The cut is inside her top lip and pretty deep (hence the major swelling)  Since she is a thumb sucker I just wanted to make sure everything was okay in there.  Doctor told me to have her wear a mitten to bed so she wouldn’t suck her thumb for awhile.  I paid $100 copay for that wise advice.  Thanks doc.

By the way, like any normal mom, I took my camera to the ER where I took these shots. What?!? You don’t take your camera to the ER?? Well, you’re missing out on some great photo ops!! 😉 (Yes, I’m that obsessed with scrapbooking!)

I’m pretty sure my son is the only baby who gets these when he wakes up…

whatever happened to seashells?

This past weekend we took my family to the Oasis.  We got there in time for sunset and the view was great.  The food was okay (you can’t beat Pappasitos when it comes to Mexican!)  But what really bothered me was where our waiter chose to seat us…and where my husband’s chair was in view of that (“honey, just keep looking forward”).  I understand the whole mermaid statue idea at a restaurant that is near water…but seriously people, whatever happened to seashell bras?  I cropped many of the pics I took of the sunset because I really didn’t want to see a mermaid’s nipples in the same scenic shot, but here is one pic to warn you to just stay away from the mermaid statue section of the restaurant!

it’s coming…

I love, love, love receiving Christmas cards, more specifically the ones with family photos. To all my friends and family: I expect cards this year(and I don’t mean store bought Christmas cards that you just sign your name in-no slackers!)  I’m already in the process of thinking what to do this year.  Hmmm…
I’m pretty sure I won’t be doing this though.

Yes, I will claim them as my family.

this might scare some people

As I was glancing around my closet today, I happened to look upon something I hadn’t seen in awhile…some might ask why I still have it…I wonder that myself.

From November 2008

Here is the lid to my collection of erasers from when I was in elementary school and junior high. You can see I’m quite the artist with nail polish!
So what do you find when you open it up…

From November 2008

BAM!  You better believe I was proud of myself for this collection of 245 erasers!!! How, do you ask, do I know how many erasers I have? Well, of course I found an inventory I did on them all-DUH! (Friends who know me shouldn’t be surprised.) I even put them in catergories like “hearts” and “Christmas” and “places”

From November 2008

What makes me laugh is that I was so OCD that I even did inventory on the tiny erasers that you buy in bulk for a dollar.

From November 2008

People, I even have a toilet eraser. Geesh.

stumped

Rilyn asked what a ‘Christian’ was because she heard the word on the radio in the car.

I told her that a ‘Christian’ was someone who wanted Jesus to be King of their life and they realized that they are a sinner and need Jesus to forgive their sins.

She then asked what a ‘sinner’ was.

I told her that ‘sin’ was any wrong choices and that we all are sinners. (She told me she wasn’t a sinner so I immediately knew this conversation wasn’t going to be ‘her coming to Christ’ moment.)

She wanted to know how I sin so I told her “one way mommy sins is when I get angry at you or daddy.”

She then asked me if Jesus was a sinner and I told her “No. Jesus is the only person who has never sinned.”

She then thought for a moment and said, “What about when Jesus tipped over the table in the temple (John 2:14-16)? He was angry then and you said being angry is a sin!”

I told her we will talk about this later with daddy.  How do you explain “righteous anger” to a 4 year old?
